The way points of this bicycle route:
Start. The Isis Highway can be busy at times, however the road has a very wide verge which makes it reasonably safe for cyclists.
Turning off the Isis Highway heading for South Kolan. This back road is used as a short cut by many, so be mindful of traffic at busy times.
One of the steepest downhill sections around Bundaberg. A good place to see how fast you can go, but do take care.
There is a give way sign at the far end of the bridge as it is only built for single lane traffic. Make sure any approaching traffic has seen you before crossing the bridge.
The is an area at the side of the ride where you can stop and stretch. Some nice views of the river.
A relatively steep climb back up from the river. Pick a low gear and you should be able to ride to the top.
There are a few ups and downs between here and South Kolan, so take your time and you should make it through.
The South Kolan Pub is on the corner. Turn right onto the Bundaberg Gin Gin Rd. Some sections of this road have blind corners and no verge, so be prepared to get off the road quickly if drivers take risks on corners.
The tiny township of South Kolan. There is a service station here, but its not too far to the Sharon Gorge rest area.
Sheltered tables, BBQ and Toilets in a well kept rest area. The walk through the gorge starts here (15-20 minute walk). Stop and have lunch while your here.
Service station with toilet and other nearby shops.
Right at the roundabout to go over the Don Tallon Bridge.
Finish at the Information Centre.
